A Wedding Toast

A Wedding Toast

Saw an angel by the flagpole,

Just the other day lined up for school,

Quivering the way our knees go weak

Our tears spill out we cannot speak.

Today’s the same, emotions gather.

These kids of ours we hold so dear,

Prayers and blessings all, our happy cheer,

Celebrate with us today this gift

Forever even as the continents drift.

Is there even time in forever’s thrall?

My only other wedding toast?

Embarrassing, I fear I turned it to a roast.

You know how words bewitch the thoughts we say?

The moon already risen in the day

Magic under spell of love’s bouquet?

You are many:

On the outs, declare a truce

Happy? Celebrate, find a way

Daylight moon is magic you can use

Moon and stars all day

Happy, rejoice and take note

Share a sunrise, renew and share

Meet some one new, intentions are clear, learn a dance together

In trouble, know we’ll be your coat

Be open to each other

We are joined together through these bonds today

Maybe someone you don’t know, or friends across the sea

Reach out, reinvest, talk about a future

Together make a plan

All of us, bless this time together.

We never saw the flag get raised that day

Blinked away the tears and she was gone

Just the other day lined up for school,

Quivering the way our knees go week

Our tears spill out we cannot speak.

Today’s the same, emotions turn to prayer.

Angel always here, knows my words

Silent hopes, dreams of peace, and our oriole birds

Blessings of love always may they join these two

Let their dreams come true

Their very own angel till the end of days.

My angel always.
