Application to Become a Nun

Application to Become a Nun

written by: Arshi Mortuza

Forgive me father for I have sinned.
The sin itself is the very intent
to keep on sinning.
I bow to no idols
and I won’t vow to self-denial.
But I feel there’s a drop of divinity
in even the worst of us.

At times I search for recluse —
And at your door I seek refuge.
You can condemn me
for smoking too many cigarettes,
or laughing when you utter “celibate”
But I’d rather be in a convent
than my own personal hell.
