the ospreys are gone
nests still intact
still
wide and spacious
must’ve been
sometime after
summer’s last
full moon
sometime in
the early days
of her waning
egrets persist
in the shallows still
their heron cousins
suddenly subtly themselves
absent
look away
and everything changes
rest your gaze
and it does anyway
