Ballad for Juliet
written by: Diana Burns
My little girl is beautiful
if only she could see
the warrior inside of her;
plain as day to me.
At three and twenty years
the battles she has fought
stare silently through em’rald eyes
reflecting lessons taught.
Those eyes that well up ev’ry time
injustice rears its head.
That overflowing empathy
for all but her instead.
My little girl is magic
for like a sorc’rer’s staff
she takes away the tragic
for all who hear her laugh.
If I were able to give to her
anything of choice;
it would be to see the joy she brings
to all who hear her voice.
