Bark of the Dogs

Bark of the Dogs

written by: Dclamo

I remember the bark of the dogs
The barks that followed me every morning
As I walked to school
cold and hungry
afraid and angry
unsure and uncertain
of what to expect
If I got to school late

I remember the bark of the dogs
At night when I returned
barefoot and sweaty
tired and still hungry
unsure and uncertain
of what to expect
If I found no food on the table

I remember the bark of the dogs
Late night as I read
As I struggled with sleep
and torment from the mosquitoes
all in the name of the keys to success
unsure and uncertain
I carried on
not knowing what to expect
If the keys didn’t fit the door
