Black Water

written by: Teresa Cimarelli

David Smith was paddling on his board in the ocean on Australia’s east coast. His stomach did a somersault as he looked down at the murky water.

The board bumped upward. Then, a dorsal fin raised out of the water. David flopped himself forward to get a better look. He couldn’t see through the pitch-black depths. The giant beast breached the surface of the water and chomped David’s head off.

The great white spit the head out as it slid back into the water.

David’s headless body hung from the ankle strap off the side of the paddle board.
