Champion

His chest rises and falls,
Each breath heavy with defeat.
And so it’s back to the drawing board,
Beaten, broken, and bleeding:
Another season down the drain,
And a silent promise to come back better.
Joe Schmidt is a Junior at Medford High School who is new to poetry. Mostly, he enjoys playing soccer and reading up on battles or Greek mythology.
