Chicago
Song of the City
written by: Jan Niebrzydowski
The harbinger’s voice collided with the street
And the echoes bounced to the highest cracked window
Bringing many ears pressed against the wind to hear
The sounds of the city, its musical lilt like pan clatter
Cellophane rain crinkles against high rise glass
Cacophony becomes melody as the fire of the dragon
Heats with its bristle and the siren strains the night
The tap on the street of a million shoe clicks
Music from multitude cultures rises and whips together
The discordant notes bash then mesh into one tune
Bells from high steeples clang reverberation
Vendor’s baritone song of buyer’s plea whistles out
Chiming from ice cream trucks, snaps of hit baseballs
Sublime renditions of lovers’ songs ghosting
Through shadow lit gangways caught by sweet lips
Streamers of ear confetti scintillate in open air
Orchestrated by the residents – just listen
