Childhood

Childhood

written by: Carol Anne

One ignores the other
Be your own friend, be your own mother
Time is standing still, but you are always moving
Dreams are like enemies
Night falls, Nightmares call
You are alone and the truth is scary
The sun is rising so high
You’re cold, wear a jacket, you’re colder still
Entrust your secret to someone who lies
Defend your own story while someone cries
Realise that you’re alone
Use your defenses to the best of your ability
Defend your mind from all the cruelty
Don’t feel the pain
Live like this until you can escape
Then disappear as fast as you came
Into a place where you feel safe
Never return to the world you knew
It’s better to pretend you’re happy than to share the real view.
