Death

The knell has sounded
sense obliterated, extirpated, eradicated
an annihilation of acceptance of a right to life
a destructive state of affairs
an extermination of people
cushioned in excuses about provocation and justification –
as if that were possible
The angel of death rides with
four horsemen
bringing vengeance,
death, famine, war, conquest, massacre –
out, out brief candle
snuff out each bright spark
cease each precious breath
curtains
whilst we sit on the sidelines
selling arms, proffering alms
to salve our consciences
for there’s a plan afoot
to extinguish, eradicate, ruin
hope amongst the rubble
we gonna reap just what we sow
Grim – a sharp scythe
cutting a swathe through humanity
eternal rest and damnation
For,
there’s thy sting
the wages of sin…
of birth…
of othering…
is death
NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
As the world lurches from one man-made cataclysmic event to another, it might be time to take stock and consider an alternative way to be.
