Table

Table

written by: Ellie Ness

we bring to our table
mats, crackers, foliage, candles, tumblers –
a universal truth that a problem
shared, enveloped, discussed and hugged out
is a problem divided, resolved
it takes a village to raise a child
to cheer from the periphery
to trust them to others, the
Big Bad Wolves beyond –
come sit with us

see the bowls and plates
lovingly crafted in art class
the non-alcoholic frizzante sparkling
in linear patterns inside crystal stems –
lest you fall off that wagon
your jacket’s always been
on a shoogly peg –
the golden child with the
blackened heart,
come sit with us – stay
