I See You

I See You

written by: Gail Constable

Tipping back that
Beer wearing your
Military jacket, buzz
Cut, face stubble,
You want to be seen
As tough as standing
In a cyclone
Laughing at death,
Not the shrinking
Man hiding a little
Child inside encased
In steel plated
Armour, never gonna
Be hurt by anyone
Again, another
Bottle, a few shots,
Alot of memories
Of all the women
You used to get
Back at her, a real
Man that I scare
Because I see you,
The tears, the pain
Can’t hide from me
So make your empty
Threats, vent all the
Angry words ’cause
I got too close to
Meaning something,
Turn around, little
Man, so you don’t
Have to watch me
Walking away seeing
Your crumpled
Reflection in the
Window of the bar.
