I Shall Fall
written by: Bhakta Bahadur Basnet
Now, I have awakened
To the eternal law of existence
Life is fleeting like a fallen flower
Death waits, certain and still
My end is certain
I may fall today or tomorrow
Or …in some unknown hour
But I shall fall
These thoughts are mine
I will not hurl my conscience
Into the fire of imitation
And cremate myself while alive
Neither am I a slave to borrowed beliefs
Nor a walking corpse of conformity
I want to be a butterfly in the open sky
Not a puppet pulled by invisible strings
Let your thoughts wrestle with the world
Let the struggle strike a spark
Either let your being blaze like a flame
Or fade into forgotten ash
Wait! Before death encounters you
Encounter your inner self
Else, you may breathe for years
Yet never have been born
