quietly fading spirit of long-revered image
pitiful phantom of dear hopes abandoned
mournful ghost bound to stolen dreams
Who is this tragic figure of loss and
abandonment, the visiting presence
wonders –
Who senses the presence while neither
speaking nor moving; without fear, only
hopeless –
Who lies inert and scarcely breathing,
dull of eye, bits of livid flesh revealed;
awake –
This feminine figure lying in the shadows,
loosely wrapped in clean white linen,
haunting –
Yes, muses the presence sadly. All these.
