Lion’s Den

Lion’s Den

written by: Kendall Rucks

Who’s been in my lion’s den?
It reeks of fresh meat and fake furs.
Did you go hunting tonight
To no avail? Did God object to your carnal attempt at manhood
your desperate justification to prove you’re not like other men
You’re worse.

Or was it my primordial haunting that veiled you?
The sap of the maple that dripped into your drink,
the back of the head of a dirty blonde
who is a dirty blonde but she’s not me.

The pink velvet of your booth at Delilah,
the scent of the smoke of a Russian cream,
you live in a world of me.

Who’s been in my lion’s den?
