Murphy’s Milk Bar

Murphy’s Milk Bar

written by: Mike Henry

We met in the milk bar at Murphy’s
In the summer of ‘52
I remember your cute little pigtails
That first made me take notice of you.

You were there with your friends
Who all made a noise
When ordering cola and shakes
They made fun of the boys
As if they were just toys
But you knew just what it takes

It takes lots of nerve
To mumble “hello”
To a girl that you’ve never met
But I did it for sure
And I wish I’d said more
But I said it was just for a bet

Now Murphy’s is gone
There’s a new office block
Where we used to hang out in our youth
And as for you and for me?
We’re now a family of three
And I’m glad I said hello – that’s the truth!
