Our Family Roots Run Deep Just Like a Tree

written by: Marie Johnson-Ladson

Our Family is like a Tree
Our Roots run deep in the soil like our Ancestors

They are our support system that accepts nourishment from our Mother Earth

Leaves and branches extend into the Sky, acknowledging our Father Sun and accepting the energy that it transforms into nourishment

You can feel their presence, just Our Family

Like a tree trunk, Our Family stands strong, representing the present with our shared strength and values

You can see it with those still here and Family that has passed on

We are linked through ever-expanding branches to our parents and grandparents and to our children and our children’s children

That’s Our Family

Our branches stand for future generations growing in their own unique way in different directions while staying connected

The Tree leaves represent temporary phases, seasonal friends, or superficial aspects of life that come and go with changing winds

Leaves also represent hardships; Family that has lost its way; death and rebirth

They are gone from our sight but never from our hearts

Learn from these seasons of life, it comes and goes

You live every day and die once

So
Cherish the memories
But
Enjoy the present

It’s a new day for new beginnings

We are grateful
We keep the praises
We will be mighty in life
We will stay encouraged

Because

Our Family Roots Run Deep Just Like a Tree

Strong and Steady!

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Trees are a symbol of life, just like people, a reflection of change in different life cycles.
