Sam poured himself a cup of hot chocolate, adding tiny marshmallows to represent his whimsical mood. Smiling proudly, he motioned toward the sparse, barely decorated tree in the corner of the nearly empty living room.

“Look at that, Ginger. Seems like Santa came early this year for good doggies,” Sam pointed to the neatly wrapped gift brightening the dimly lit room.

Sam listened to Christmas carols as his fingers danced along to the beat. Suddenly, the sound of his doorbell interrupted the music. He had no idea his neighbors were about to bring even more joy to his already full heart.
