Spotlight On Writers
Susan Glamuzina
- Where do you originate from?
I’m from the west coast of New Zealand, where the sand is black and waves rugged. I was raised by a single mother with limited means, so imagination and creativity were my escape from reality.
- What do you cherish most about the place you call home?
I live in Auckland where the Pacific Ocean is to the east, and Tasman Sea to the west but they are very close to each other, both less than half an hour away. I can drive to a calm white sand beach or rugged black sand beach depending on my mood. If I want to watch the sunrise, I go to the east, or to enjoy the sunset I head west.
- What ignites your creativity?
I channel nature to get inspiration and my creative flow – Mother nature, flora, the ocean, and life experiences. I holiday in Lake Taupo, a large lake formed by a volcano on a huge volcanic plateau and the source of that magical black sand on the west coast. My writing is much the same in that the source of creativity is from my childhood and the flow from my surroundings, experiences and my children.
- Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?
Chaotic
Crashing waves blended in chaotic bliss.
- What is your pet peeve?
Complicated words used for no reason – I believe people of any reading skill should be able to read without needing a dictionary. I’m so passionate about this that under a pen name of Sue Carpenter I write easy to read books for teens.
- How would you describe the essence of Susan Glamuzina?
A down to earth loving mother who is navigating life one poem at a time.
