Stoic

Though very sick
She continues to work
Visits her doctors
But stops treatment
As it was not effective
Cancer spreads
She will not give up working
As long as she has energy
Pain attacks her
She walks around lopsided
She starts to cough
Wearing a mask
She apologizes and explains
Cancer expands to her lungs
She insists on going to work
She expresses
When it is time
The hospice awaits
For now work is her purpose
And therapy for her fear
After retirement from medical profession in 2016, I shifted gears and started to write poems. Through expressing emotions, depicting humanity, exploring life and nature with poems I have gained more insights into my inner and outer worlds.
