Streets Of Stone

written by Anne G

Streets of stone
"Am I alone?"

Silence answers ...
thoughts are heard

Footsteps follow
shadows lurk

Broken roads
carry my load

Streets of stone
cracked with pain

Stained in anger
paved with angst

Grime and soot
unwashed by tears

Doubt and fear
hasten my fate

Cobbled path
unsteady gait

A silent voice ...
"Is no one there?"

Why write?
I write because I am:
Driven to distraction by the inequities of the society in which we live.
Motivated by cruelty, abuse, ignorance and indifference.
My intention: To poke, prod and provoke!
"Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess." - Oscar Wilde
