Sweet Honey Bee

Sweet Honey Bee

Poetry

by Anne G

Genus Apis

insect extraordinaire

perennial pollinator,

sweet honey bee.

Imagine a world

without flowers and trees,

succulent fruits,

 honey and tea.

Numbers diminished,

causes unknown;

planetary awareness,

global concern.

Unexplained

mystery,

consequences

unknown.

Pivotal propagators

of crops, plants and trees;

natural laborers

queen’s worker bees.

They toil round the clock,

manufacturing gold;

beeswax for candles,

honey for food.

Blossom to blossom,

flowering fields;

gathering nectar

to bring to the nest.

Tireless worker,

exemplary bee;

creator of species,

of beautiful deeds.

The future uncertain,

the fruitful earth bleak;

if the sweet honey bee

disappears from the earth.

Why write?
I write because I am:
Driven to distraction by the inequities of the society in which we live.
Motivated by cruelty, abuse, ignorance and indifference.
My intention: To poke, prod and provoke!
