Carmen Baca taught high school and college English for 36 years before retiring in 2014. A lifelong New Mexican, she embraces her Spanish heritage which is evident in her works through her use of regionalism. Her motivation comes from her desire to keep her culture's dying traditions alive through her story-telling. El Hermano, her debut novel (2017) was endorsed as "a valuable contribution to New Mexico literature" by the late Rudolfo Anaya, and selected as a finalist in historical fiction from the NM-AZ Book Awards Coop. Her third book, Cuentos del Cañón, won 1st place in short story anthology from the same organization. She has published 5 books, over 50 short publications in 13 genres. Between caring for feral and adopted cats, she and her husband live a quiet life at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains of northern New Mexico.
