Early Days

Early Days

written by: Linda Joyce Cooper

I’m remembering
those lovely days in spring
The bobbing blue bell heads
in the soft breeze

I’m remembering
the strong green trees
that stood with might
they cast a shadow
as dark as night

I’m remembering
the laneways
how I found myself in another place
away from home
on my skates

I’m remembering
the soft white snow
was not cold
was always fun
playing in the snow
at school.

I’m remembering the polly blobs
in the swamp
the fun we had
collecting them
jumping from one mound
to another

I’m remembering
the crystal clear brook
that wandered over
the little pebbles in the
cool clear water

I’m remembering
the walk across the pinglefields
to the little town
over the bridge
where the willows swayed

I remember my early days.
