That’s Why I Lie
written by: Jan Sargeant
Grey clouds ready to burst
floods of blood and tears
you’ll never hear me cry
truth is the worst
that’s why I lie
avoid truth
pretend it’s the life
you wanted to live,
how it was planned to be,
tunes with all the right notes
but not the right order – see
me flinch at their discord
see me laugh through my grief
take my head in your hands
and lay bare my disbelief
comb your fingers through my fears,
and then silence my cry
remember truth is the worst
and that’s why I lie
