The Black Dog

He’s here again,
The looming bark
that heralds the incoming dark….
I can,
I can’t,
Some days I can,
Most days I can’t,
I can fight,
I can’t fight,
Some days I win,
Most days I lose.
Some days I speak.
Most days I cannot.
I swear-scream and tell you to go…
But you stay.
You can tell those black days,
By taking the precious time
To hold me and look so deep,
Listening to what my eyes are saying.
Without words I know you know.
About the daily battle within.
Thank God you are here.
Always.
Without you I may not be.
