The Sound of Fire

The Sound of Fire

written by: Enoble Asuquo

Fire—
beautiful as a seed,
comforting,

if it grows,
a hellish sea.

Fire—
soothing as wood burns slow,
on a cold night,
flames aglow.

Fire—
it speaks for the dead,
a crack, a pop,

then spreads.

In war, fire speaks,
not in crack or pop,

but in screams:
“God! Why? Help! Please!”

In war, gods are far,
men are near,

seeking blood,
ignoring tears.

When the burning world pleads for rain,

and all you hear is victory’s call—

ask yourself,

“Am I human at all?”
