To Be At The Peak

To Be at the Peak

written by: Meike Nicolay

The climb has been exhausting
Years of grasping for higher points
Just to surpass the competition.
The wind is bitter and freezing
My hands are numb and bleeding,
But the view is breathtaking.
To reside where others are grasping
The fire inside keeps my chest warm
My hands remain stiff and burn
Dull aches reverberate through my being
To rest would be the greatest gift.
It’s an extensive climb to reach this point,
And I have a long way to fall
