Underwater

Underwater

I like to dive deep into the pond
Where the sunlight does not reach
Where the muddy floor
Rakes up a storm
And wild weeds grow.

Then again I sit by the bank
Turning lazy somersaults
Near the surface, panning for shrimps
In bare cupped hands
Watching them leap away

Other times when I’m in too deep
I flounder, out of breath
Dark fingers pull me down
Tugging at my resistance
Well outside my depth.

Always, just as I float unfettered,
When I am ready to yield
To the enticing darkness,
Your hand reaches mine
And softly draws me out.
