Unexpected Betrayal

Unexpected Betrayal

The moment I found out I was pregnant, my whole world crumbled…

I remember throwing that stupid pregnancy test into the sea. Like it never existed.
He promised to be there. He promised that once we discovered the two pink bars, it would be our moment. Our happiness. A gift we had expected for so long. And yet, I was alone facing the positive result.

As I watched the plastic stick hitting the water from the shore, I first hoped it would drown. I deeply hoped it would. No trace, no evidence. Nothing had happened.

Unexpectedly, it just kept floating— a painful reminder of what my life was gonna look like from now on. I, alone, fighting, suffocating every minute of every day under the weight of it all.

With teary eyes, I observed my freedom beginning to fall apart, piece by piece. Just a stupid text. Only three words had ruined my life. “I LOVE YOU.”
When someone tells you to never look into your partner’s phone, listen to them. They are right.

It’s dangerous, and once you’ve started, it’s practically impossible to stop. A daily addictive hobby which hurts you more and more as you continue reading.
Sometimes, you think: “I probably misread,” “he could never, we’re so in love!”…
Yet, deeply in your core, you know the awful truth. And facing this new reality, it’s admitting out loud that your life will never be the same. Ever.

I was ready to have a baby. I wanted this baby with all my heart. But I cannot do it on my own, and I cannot let him back in my life either. So, where does that leave me?
Still sitting for two hours on this uncomfortable bench, facing the sea. The test is long gone by now. Disappeared.

It was too painful to watch it floating, fighting against the waves. So I closed my eyes. Now, as I opened them, my tears were dry. I see clearly.

I take a deep breath and dial the number.
This afternoon at five pm, it all will be over. No more worries. No regrets. But a new future to build.

At the clinic, I sit in the waiting room, surrounded by women who have made the same choice as I. Maybe not for the same reason. But we all are reunited here, looking at each other with a shy, compassionate smile.

I decide, it’s the perfect moment to erase all traces of him. My phone is open on the message app. A text he sent me two weeks ago when I was still happy, fully in love, and had not felt betrayed yet. A text that promised me the perfect happy ending, the life I always wanted.

“You are the love of my life, I want this baby with you. I will always be there for you two,” he said. Well, obviously, you lied. It was all a lie.
