voids trip wires

in darkness primed
down from the hands
of dying gods

blindness
like wild
fire

burning
hope
alive

loyalty demanded
by nothing but greed

once spoken
by the mouths of men
faith becomes a curse

and idolatry
becomes the norm.

Edward L. Canavan is a Los Angeles based poet whose work has most recently been published in Poetry Quarterly, Edge of Humanity Magazine, and Literary Heist.
