When it Finally Landed
written by: Scott Rohrer
I wrote a poem once,
a fourth grade haiku.
After you, these past few weeks,
I’ve written twenty-two.
Now every lyric, every song
lands,
like it always meant to.
Before you, I was lost
in words, in music,
hearing the beat,
but missing the message.
Maybe that’s why
you played what you did,
songs you knew would stay,
even if I didn’t.
Then I lost you.
Now it follows me,
those same songs,
the ones I tie to you,
playing louder than before,
saying what I didn’t catch then.
Your poetry, the silence,
every word I let pass through,
One line you wrote,
one I’ll always love,
the one that hit clear.
“May our love play on.”
Now every lyric comes through,
painfully loud.
