Your Scent

Your Scent

written by: Nigel de Costa

In a tatty shoebox,
at the back of our wardrobe,
is a half-empty bottle of perfume.
Sometimes I’ll take it out
and with a deep breath
inhale your essence.

You’re back from your sleep,
a genie, swirling around our bedroom
as a waft of honeysuckle
might float through the window
and in a moment be gone
leaving just a memory.
