Vincent

written by: Mihaela Melnic

You had come into the world
to give your shirt to the poor
and your colors to the rich

to quarrel with Gaugain
and love an unfortunate woman
while painting blue irises
and dying sunflowers

then you were gone
leaving the canvas blank
and the chair empty

vanishing in the shadows
of your restlessness
with an ear cut off
and a hole in your belly

abandoning
all the madness
they had attributed you

yet, your reasoned insanity
bites my mind
spasmodically
centuries away
