I Will Bloom Again

December: Two blue lines, finally. We squeeze hands, trade excited smiles.
January: A ruby rush of blood; my precious jewel gone.
February: Green shoots pierce the soil, but to me all is bottomless black.
June: I lie on yellow sand, floating outside my body. Your fingers brush my leg. “Maybe we should try again.” I fall back into myself, a white-hot blur.
September: The sky shades purple into pink; the clouds begin to lift.
November: Our boots crunch through orange leaves. The woods are only dormant; their colours will return. My chest flutters as I take your hand. “I’m ready.”
