Mike Ricketts
- Where do you originate from?
I am originally born in London, son of Jamaican born parents who came to England during the Windrush period.
- What do you cherish most about the place you call home?
I grew up in Wembley a stones throw away from Wembley Stadium.
I moved to a small town called East Grinstead nearly 40 years ago.
With my wife we raised 3 wonderful boys who are all married and we have 2 beautiful grandaughters. Nice to have the girls in the family.
This is home. The sense of community and pride in the town is particularly endearing to me as we have historic buildings dating back to the 14th Century. The home of the pioneering WWII plastic surgeon McIndoe at the Queen Victoria hospital, also St Hill Manor and it grounds, UK headquarters of the Church of Scientology and then of course the close proximity to Ashdown forest and the famous stories of Winnie the Pooh at Pooh Sticks Bridge, which is a real location.
- What ignites your creativity?
The recognition that I am a spiritual being. I am not my body, my car, my house, and I want to create positive effects with my art forms to help make the world a better place to live in.
- Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?
I love the English language and love to hear it spoken in British films in particular.
It is difficult to choose but the word remarkable is a lovely word.
It is a remarkable thing to emulate,
one’s natural ability to communicate
- What is your pet peeve?
My pet peeve is poor service or service without a smile.
- How would you describe the essence of Mike Ricketts?
Mike Ricketts is a person who cares about many things in life but is a friend that will be open and frank with you presenting views in a way that smoothly and calmy gets the point across. Certainly a calming influence who will share his wisdom with those that want to listen. Constantly validating and supportive. A glass is half full kind of guy who will get 2 smaller glasses to make them both full and give you one of them.
