The World Knocks at My Door

The World Knocks at My Door

The world knocks at my door in the morning
I shut the door on its face
Ask the world to buck off from me!

I do not want to know about those wars
I do not want to learn about children getting killed
Mercilessly for reasons only known to those fighting!

I want to learn the language of the guava tree
In my little garden.
I want to listen to the conversation between
The tree and the birds that come there at dawn.

A bald-headed man tells me to buy gold
In my living room!
I want to shut him out and
Learn about the golden fringe on those clouds
That keeps crowning the hills near my home!
So I switch off the TV remote near me.

My phone blinks repeatedly
Telling me about the weather conditions
Of those far-off places where my children reside!

A new AI assistant crops up from nowhere
Telling me what I should do
What I would love
What I would hate
What I have to eat
And
How I have to die!
I throw my phone
Into the canal nearby
Walk fast lest
Someone would pick it up and
Give it back to me!
I decide to live my life
And
Sit peacefully under my guava tree!
