The Dead Children

The Dead Children

written by: Diana Burns

The world turn their faces
From now empty spaces
Where laughter once sounded
And babies weren’t hounded.

The Dead Children

I too want to turn away
Unsee them where they lay
But we owe them more than
Was ordered by one man.

The Dead Children

We owe them wailing and sorrow and mourning
Sack cloth and ashes we should be adorning
We owe them justice and vengeance and quid pro quo
Solace and comfort and room for their woe.

The Dead Children

Their blood cries for reckoning
It screams in its beckoning…
