Love thy Neighbour

Love thy Neighbour

written by: SmithaV

Love thy neighbour
Imagine you’re at home on a Sunday
Sipping your coffee, having a meal, watching a movie,
Playing with your kids
Or your pet
Praying, fasting
Cooking up a feast
breaking fast, dining with friends
Or not
And out of nowhere, your roof falls
A wall caves in
Your living room,
Kitchen, bedroom
Catches you in the act
of sleeping,
eating,
playing,
praying,
Doing things you did yesterday
And the day before
And before that
Minding your own business
Going about life, making a life,
Your only fault –
A neighbour or neighbours, their sins,
You have no right to be complacent
Because your neighbour is powerful,
has enemies.
Tit for tat, your neighbour’s mantra
If I go down, I will take you, too!
Don’t ask why
You know the answer
It’s ‘Love thy neighbour’
So choose your neighbours wisely
If you can
And if you can’t
Build a wall, a shield, an armour
Before you begin decking your home,
Inviting guests, putting up your feet
And believing you’ve arrived;
are finally home.
