The Bruised Earth

The Bruised Earth

written by: Kailash Nath Khandelwal

The Earth cries out in pain,
A silent screaming echoing through the land.
The weight of human greed and neglect,
A burden that threatens to annihilate and destroy.

The blue skies are now a hazy grey,
The oceans choke with rubbish, the forests fading away.
The creatures of the land and sea,
Suffer and struggle,
Their future uncertain, their fate insecure.

We are at the pinnacle of progress and pride,
But in doing so, we’ve lost our sensibilities.
Our hearts are hardened, our souls gone astray,
We’ve forgotten the beauty that is decaying day by day.

The Earth is more than just a resource to be exploited,
A commodity to be bought and sold, a mere object to possess
It’s our home, our haven, our sacred trust,
A treasure to be cherished, a legacy to pass on ahead.

Let’s awaken to the reality of our misfortune
And strive to be the change we wish to see in the light.
Let’s heal the wounds we’ve inflicted on the Earth,
And work towards a future that’s sustainable and just.
