Wild Flounder, a poem by Tina Hudak at Spillwords.com

Wild Flounder

Wild Flounder

written by: Tina Hudak

Wild flounder is caught and
cleaned and sliced. Pieces
discarded then gently
wrapped by stranger’s
hands in deli paper.
Waiting to be eaten,
bit by bit by bit.
Oh, hungry mouths!

Captive within these
walls wildness withers.
Unloved memories are
snipped. Washed away by
tepid water. Her unloved
memories lay fallen at
other’s feet. Soft
Turkish cotton envelops
the tired body as she
safeguards a tender self
from consumption.
Oh, hungry heart!
