Life happens gradually, then suddenly …

What is Life? The question subjective, the answers many, the conclusion …?
Life is defined as “the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.”
Is this truly all it is? Is life solely composed of time? Why are we so cavalier with its significance?
Ask a multitude of persons and most likely you will receive as many different responses. The answers to the question will most definitely be based on everyone’s experiences during their respective journeys.
Why is it that as children time seems to stand still yet with each passing year it seems to fly by at the speed of light. Why is that? Could it be that we innately imagine ourselves eternal?
We humans go about this life as if it were never-ending. Seconds, minutes, hours and days are shed like articles of clothing with very little thought given to the possibility that any day could be our very last.
So many of us are consumed with self-pity and are so self-absorbed that years are discarded with mindless abandon never giving ourselves the opportunity to savor the beauty passing us by.
Arrogance and pride rob us of our exquisite nature never realizing that we are so much more than the obvious, the daily routine and the trappings of society. The mundane insinuates itself becoming reality and our sublime creation, an afterthought. What a tragic waste!
“Between birth and death exists” Life.
It is up to each one of us to live the in-between. The possibilities are endless as to what we can accomplish between the conception of life and our inevitable physical death. Each of us will invariably confront obstacles which will at times seem insurmountable. Every one of us will experience unimaginable personal tragedies, sadness and hurt that will all but overwhelm us, test our resolve and break our hearts. We will also know what it is to love and be loved, experience joy and happiness, triumph and success. Each situation although unique to ourselves shares commonality with others for at some point and time we all taste the sweetness and bitterness of our chosen paths.
We owe it to ourselves to live each waking moment with presence of mind, being fully aware that we are alive. We have been given an incredible opportunity, whether by accident or planned, to experience Life! It is therefore imperative that we live each day to the fullest no matter the circumstances for to waste it is to not lived at all.
I entreat you to remember that life happens gradually, and suddenly … it’s gone.

Why write? I write because I am: Driven to distraction by the inequities of the society in which we live. Motivated by cruelty, abuse, ignorance and indifference. My intention: To poke, prod and provoke!
