Poppy, a poem written by Wolfgang H. at Spillwords.com

Poppy

Poppy

written by: Wolfgang H.

oh Poppy dear what have I done
your blossom is so sweet
I don’t know why I’ve been and gone
I don’t deserve your treat

I’ve been around for months and years
in ever closing space
so close it came to raise my fears
and finally my face

the arousal of my foggy eyes
had cleared my hampered vision
so clear I saw what was the price
and started with my mission

off I went with my guitar
determined not to turn
but realised I went too far
when the stake was burned

everything went up in smoke
and with it all the fun
the fact I left was hard a stroke
for all there were but one

the war was over pretty soon
with casualties galore
the poppy is my only moon
for hope there’ll be no more
