Christmas Will Be Coming

Like an old friend
who has been away for awhile –
“Christmas” will be coming, in old-fashioned style!
With a holly berry on its lapel
Glistening snow on its back
A yuletide carol on its lips
and a shining star in its sack
There’ll be joy in the air
Kindness in the heart
And all children will seem to know
…that a sweet old man will do his part
He’ll stop by on the Eve
With sleigh and reindeer
A belly full of love
And a soul full of cheer
A Christmas tree and cookies
will welcome his visit
Christmas lights will twinkle
The fireplace, exquisite
The gifts will be set ‘neath the tree, with a smile
He’ll rest his legs on a box, and sit for awhile
He’ll eat a cookie or two, then rise to his feet
Escape to his sleigh and back in his seat
He’ll be off through the sky
Past the moon with a flair
The dog will look up from his sleep
with a stare
The house will stay quiet
now that Santa is gone
The parents still sleeping
The kids dreaming on
…and like an old friend
