Christmastime

Christmastime

Survived another year,
Its end draws close
Sometimes marked with coat of snow
As hairs turn white on head

When young, time to receive
Piles of gifts, hard to sleep
Listening for living room activity
Wondering of cookies

Teen, young adult
A time for eyes to roll
With silly tinsel, boring meal
Soon to vacate on young man’s wheels

Rudely forced, realizes man
Grown wiser, life’s too short
A time to give, then, eat, and share
Watch kids get bigger year by year

In return, to feel
What often life neglects
Sharing intimacy, humor,
Toasts, respects

Light the candle, place the wreath
Hugs and smiles, now cycle complete
