Dear Father

Dear Father

written by: Michelle Ayon Navajas

Dear Father,

Every day, I find myself pondering about you, wondering what kind of person you are. Do you think of me, your child, or have I slipped from your memory? The stories I’ve heard about you – some good, some bad, and some untrue – only add to the mystery of who you really are to me.

I can’t help but wonder if you were kind and gentle, or if cruelty and deceit filled your heart. Did you help me laugh, love, and grow, or did you leave me to brave life alone?

I wish so deeply to understand you, the man who shares my blood. Do you carry regret for not being there for me, or have you found peace with our separation? Do you ever yearn for a connection with me, despite the bittersweetness it may bring?

I may never find the answers, but that won’t stop me from reserving a space for you in my heart. Perhaps one day, love will fill that void between us, and I will come to truly know the father I barely know.

With love,

Your child
