early risers

we’ve joined the world
of the early risers
the cat & i-
hot coffee with summer’s crickets
or winter’s creaking darkness as
the light finds its way
into the cold
there’s no day but this one,
and the morning knows this,
holding out fresh promise
with each tick of the kitchen clock
but the cat,
incredulous that
i should have to be reminded
such a thing,
is silent on the subject,
being long awake
I am a teacher and learner, writer and reader, photographer and musician. I ride a bicycle, run, and swim, chasing immortality. A buddhist who remembers Jesus.
