Holy Communion

Holy Communion

written by: Maggie Watson

Droplets of saltwater rain fall upon her alabaster skin.
A holy communion of tears for years spent in pain.
There is no crucifix around her neck.
She does not believe in God.
Inner strength is her religion.
Trust in herself forged from an epic battle.
Criss-cross scars are still visible on her forehead from
a crown of thorns placed.
Open wounds still ooze rivulets of red as she remembers
being stripped of her soul.
Droplets of tears will never wash away what
remains of his dirt.
To the depths of the ocean, she must travel.
Baptism is the only hope before her
alabaster skin turns grey.
So she dives below the waves while the spirit of her father
leads the way.
And in hell, the heavens open as the devil drowns in a holy
communion of rain.
