Hurricane, a poem written by Tori Stambaugh at Spillwords.com

Hurricane

hurricane

written by: Tori Stambaugh

at first
you were quiet,
lingering like
dew in the morning
with your eyes green
and glistening
like grass after the rain

but where your voice
was silent
your body was loud,
and like a thunderstorm
it woke me
in the middle of the night

years later,
i would realize that
your mind is
more like a hurricane;
beautiful and terrifying
all at once
but by now you
should know
that i have weathered
many storms,
and i will stand through
many more

so when your
winds and rain
finally die down
i will be here
and we will
clear the debris
and rebuild you
from the ground up
every time.
