I Protest All Of This

i protest all of this

i protest
at the greed of men
who would lay waste
to the only
planet we have as a home,
and see no need to preserve
nature and all her goodness
to further our species;
who only chase dollar signs and their own
selfish desires
which only serves to hurt people,
honey bees, and elephants
to name a few;
i don’t want to go extinct
because of the ignorance of greedy men—
i want to always be able to continue my dreaming
to rise every time i fall
because i am able to construct myself from the ashes
so long as there are ashes to rise from
we need to take better care of this planet and people
because none of us needs to be caged or sacrificed because
an ignorant set of people cannot see our worth or appreciate our wild.

Linda M. Crate is a Pennsylvanian native born in Pittsburgh yet raised in the rural town of Conneautville. Her poetry, short stories, articles, and reviews have been published in a myriad of magazines both online and in print.
